A decision model answers a yes/no question about copied text. You choose what a matching answer does: add a tag, favorite, pin, mark private, mark secret, or skip saving. A generation model writes a result; a decision model decides whether a condition matches. These instructions describe ClipsX 0.1.8 and later. Rules apply to new text captures. They do not scan existing history or inspect image pixels.

Choose the model for the job

Privacy is evaluated before general organization. Successfully classified secret or private clips do not go to the General decisions assignment. The privacy provider itself receives the text it evaluates: use on-device inference when that text must stay on your device.

Set up a decision model

  1. Open Intelligence → Models and add or select a connection. Decision presets support Ollama and OpenRouter; an ordinary chat model is not automatically a decision model.
  2. For local Ollama, install a compatible System One decision model. The app offers Laya as an example:
  3. Refresh the connection’s models and create a preset with the Decision purpose. Select the installed model and use Test decision to check the connection and response.
  4. In Usage & defaults, assign the preset to General decisions, Privacy checks, or both. The assignments are separate so you can choose different providers for each.
There is no automatic provider fallback. A local endpoint does not prove local inference; check that Ollama is using a downloaded local model rather than a cloud-backed model. For connection setup, see Local AI.

Try an organization rule

  1. Open Intelligence → Decision rules, then Add rule.
  2. Name it Debugging, ask Does this describe a software error?, and choose Add tag with the tag Debugging.
  3. In Test a rule, select your draft and try both samples:
  4. Inspect the answers, revise the question if needed, then enable the rule and save. Copy a harmless example again and check its tag in History.
The test sends only your sample to the assigned provider. It does not save a clip or apply the action. A Yes probability of 50% or more counts as a match. That probability is model judgment, not measured accuracy. Test realistic examples, including cases that should not match.

Choose a privacy action

Built-in secret detection remains active without a model. Assigning Privacy checks adds model-based credential classification and lets you ask your own privacy questions, such as Does this contain confidential customer information? Enable Don’t save detected secrets if recognized credentials should be excluded before storage. These controls do not clear or replace your system clipboard, remove the original from its source application, or delete older history. Use invented sample data for tests, never real credentials.

Understand failed checks

If a configured check times out, is unavailable, returns an invalid response, or exceeds an input limit, ClipsX saves the full clip with a Not checked notice. A failed check does not automatically make the clip private: it can remain available to Recall, Meaning Search, and enabled extensions. Organization rules are skipped when privacy evaluation fails. Existing restrictions and successfully detected secrets still follow their exclusion settings. A No answer does not establish that text is safe. These rules help you control capture; they do not guarantee detection of every secret or confidential passage. Review the notice, model assignment, connection, and input size when a check cannot finish.

Run an extension only when it fits

An extension automation rule can ask a question before selecting a setup. For example, run a translation setup only when the copied text needs translation. The condition uses General decisions; Rewrite then uses Extension text generation to write the result. Continue with Conditional automation, or connect an assistant through MCP.
